Father's Day is coming up and it's time to surprise a special dad. Instead of opting for a standard Father's Day gift, why not roll up your sleeves and make something yourself? We share with you six inspiring and simple DIY ideas for an unforgettable Father's Day!

You must be wondering what all you can craft for Father's Day. There are countless possibilities, but we'll keep it simple this time and leave out the complicated projects. A nice Father's Day gift After all, making them doesn't have to be complicated at all.

Before you get started, think about your dad's hobbies, interests and favourite activities. Does he love cooking, sports or gardening? Then choose a craft project that suits his personal preferences!

1. Decorate a sports shirt

Is your dad unstoppable from the football pitch or does he love mountain biking immensely? Whatever sport he enjoys doing, a decorated sports shirt is a good idea for a fitting gift.

How do you proceed?

First you order a sports shirt in your dad's size with his name on it or another nice text. How about 'Sports dad of the year' or 'The sportiest dad'? Next, make sure you have textile markers at home. Then the creative feast can begin! Tip: don't start drawing directly on the shirt. Textile markers will never come off and you don't want to make a mess. Think carefully about what you want to draw. What also helps is to try out the drawing on paper once. When you have practised enough, draw on the shirt. You can also trace your drawing on paper onto the shirt, even easier. How happy your sporty dad will be with his new sports outfit!

2. Pimp a key ring

Does the dad you want to surprise often lose his keys? Or do you want to give him a practical gift with your cutest photo? Then get to work pimping a father's day photo key ring!

How do you proceed?

Choose your cutest photo. Get this printed on the key ring for your dad. Once you have the key, the crafting can begin. That is, if you have everything you need. How you decorate the key ring is entirely up to you. You can thread cheerful beads on a string and attach it to the ring of the key ring. There are lots of different beads, from plastic in all shapes and colours to wooden and glass beads. There are even beads with letters with which you can easily attach your father's name to the key ring. You can also make shells on a cord, for example. The possibilities are endless for a unique key ring especially for the sweetest dad!

3. Decorate a beer glass

Does your dad like a good beer on his time? Then his own glass should not be missing from the crockery cupboard.

How do you proceed?

Have a beer glass engraved with his name or other fun text, such as 'Super Daddy'. Now you have a truly unique glass for your dad at home. To make it even more special, you can decorate the glass with glass markers. With these markers, you can draw whatever you want on the glass and it will also stay put when you wash it. Looking for inspiration for your artwork? A pattern always works well. Think different coloured dots, for example. Or something that really suits your dad, like maybe a pattern of footballs or if he is a do-it-yourselfer of hammers.

4. Make a complete cheese board

Are fine dining and burgundy dining your dad's cup of tea? A cheese board with his name engraved on it is then a gift you are sure to strike the right chord with.

How do you proceed?

First, you order a cheese board with a personal text. This will be engraved in the wood with love and care. Then it's your turn. Go to the local cheese shop and buy your father's favourite cheeses. Also delicious to go with it are crackers, nuts, figs and perhaps a glass of wine or other drink your father likes. Have you gathered the ideal package together? Then put it all on the shelf and wrap it in transparent foil. Tie it up and you're done! That will be a feast on Father's Day.

5. Give your personal twist to a picture frame

Your favourite photo of the two of you together is probably of a very beautiful moment you love to remember. Frame the photo and give it to your dad as a gift. But not before you have decorated the frame yourself first.

How do you proceed?

First, look for the perfect photo of you together. If you immediately smile when you see the photo, you have found what you were looking for. Order the photo printed in a picture frame. Now you can give the artist in you a stage. You can really go in any direction with decorating the photo frame. Go to a craft shop and get inspired. For example, you can stick stick stones of all shapes and colours on the frame in a pattern. Or how about little shells or cheerful buttons? Wooden decorative animals are also a good idea. And mini pom-poms actually always do super on a craft as well. Whatever you make, your dad is sure to be thrilled with your creative splurge and pretty picture.

6. Umbrella especially for dad

There is nothing cosier than walking together in the rain under dad's umbrella. So give your dad a own umbrella gift with unique design.

How do you proceed?

Choose a nice design for on the umbrella you want to give your dad. You can also have his name or another text of your choice printed on the umbrella. Once you have the umbrella at home, it's your turn. All you need are fabric markers. It is a nice idea to draw a pattern on the umbrella. This works best when you trace it from paper. Then you can be sure it will be the same everywhere. Patterns with raindrops, clouds, boots or flowers look cheerful and playful on an umbrella. But if you want to make something else, that's fine too. Is your craft project not listed here?
